A Gift that keeps on giving.

Updated: Jul 27, 2024

It can be challenging to find true friendships that endure over time, and as we age, we tend to realise that fewer things are truly important to us - including our friends.

A real friendship should be effortless and not require hard work.

I had the pleasure of creating the floral arrangements for another wedding of two friends whom I've known since our university days, and they are still going strong! Danielle and Rikus asked me to focus solely on the bridal work for their wedding, which took place along the stunning Garden Route with its serene landscapes and natural beauty.

As someone who loves a good road trip, I made sure to stop here and there to collect some flowers along the way. Just for one reason, to bring in some small amount of the flora that grew alongside the road where they got married. Although I only gathered a small amount, I carefully selected each one to ensure that the finished product met my high standards.

On the day of the wedding, I arrived at the house where I was staying with some other friends. After unloading my car, I sat on the stoep at the back and began arranging the flowers with this endless nature i starred in and a glass of red wine on the side .

I made a few corsages and bridesmaid bouquets and the buttonholes and the bridal bouquet i did the morning of the wedding.

Some of the blooms in her bouquet was beautiful large-head red roses, the field flowers i picked on my way in, hydrangeas and a variety of small and statement flowers. blooms that invites you in to take a careful look over and over, which she loved.

She is particularly radiant when wearing red lipstick, but on her wedding day, not knowing that would have been her lipstick colour, I had the pleasure of creating a stunning crown for her to wear.

Danielle requested me to add a bullet casing to Rikus's buttonhole, which holds a special meaning in his life. It symbolises his journey towards achieving his dream of becoming a doctor through serving in the army.

As Danielle made her way down the aisle in the forest, I couldn't help but feel overwhelmed with emotion (getting goosbumps as I write this). It was like watching a forest fairy about to marry her prince, Rikus. He stood there with a smile and a joy that cannot be described in words, he was about to jump out of his skin.

Years later, I still remember that moment vividly.

This was a beautiful wedding that reflected the couple's personalities and the life they share together.

I have a deep love for both of you, as if you were my own siblings, and I always feel welcome in your presence.

I wish you both bottomless and endless of happiness.
