It was an Autumn affair.

Updated: Jun 23, 2024

I find it absolutely enchanting how each new season unfurls its unique beauty not only through visual changes but also through the sensations in the air that we can smell and feel, creating an emotional experience. Living in the stunning South African wine lands, every drive home is a journey through a landscape that radiates with autumn's vibrant colours - the vineyards along the road shifting from green to a spectrum of burgundy, yellow, red, pink, and brown, while the trees put on their own spectacular show. It's a constant source of inspiration that ignites my desire to create.

One of the joys of my work is when clients present me with a challenge and a theme. A recent intimate luncheon for friends was one of my favorite setups. With an open canvas, I was in my element. I ventured out to the farm, taking countless walks to collect the curious and fascinating things that Mother Nature has shed, and was inspired to give them new, meaningful purposes. Incorporating these elements into my design not only enhanced the overall visual appeal but also provided an opportunity for us to appreciate the often-overlooked beauty that surrounds us. As a floral designer, it was gratifying to bring these treasures to life, potentially introducing them too fresh sets of eyes and inspiring renewed appreciation.

The images I've shared don't quite do justice to the look and feel I've created. Walking into the room, the atmosphere was truly priceless, and it was achieved through the combination of textures, shapes, and colours that I brought together to create an indoor autumnal visual for my client. I believe it's important to work with the seasonal elements available and let your creativity run wild. It's often during these times that unexpected and extraordinary elements come to life, surpassing expectations and plans.

As a floral designer, I always strive to exceed my customer's expectations by going the extra mile, whenever possible. I firmly believe that it's in the details where the magic lies, and I'm passionate about delivering on that level of detail.

Sourcing local elements is something that I strongly believe in, and I make every effort to do so whenever possible. For this particular project, I incorporated a variety of fresh and dried elements, skilfully combining them to reflect the autumn season's essence. Despite being a luncheon event, I added candle details to create a warm and inviting ambiance at the table.

As a result of this attention to detail, I was able to deliver a truly memorable farewell experience for my client and their guests.
